According to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, investigators have determined the Sunday, March 24, fire in storage containers at Silver Sands State Park was intentionally set, said DEEP spokesman Lee Sawyer.
In an effort to get someone to step forward, a $2,500 reward is being offered, Sawyer said.
The fire started around 7:20 a.m. on Sunday. The Milford Fire Department quickly extinguished the fires. Investigators observed evidence of vandalism at the scene, and are treating the fires as suspicious, he added.
The State Police Fire and Explosion Investigating Unit is presently on the scene to investigate. EnCon Police have increased patrols at the park.
Sawyer said there is no indication that there is a connection between the two fires, and the first fire is currently under investigation.
During the first fire, the buildings destroyed were part of a $9.1 million project to add restrooms, concession stands and office space at the busy park. The project was scheduled to be completed later this year in time for the Memorial Day weekend.
The park remains open to the public, but visitors are advised to heed signs marking areas that are closed to public access, Sawyer said.

"The unfortunate events of the past week have only strengthened our coordination with community leaders and our commitment to park improvements for all visitors to enjoy.”
